Understanding yourself is the focus

Often clients are struggling with relationships, self-concept, energy levels, trouble sleeping, and changes in life when they seek therapy. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is not problem solving or solution-based treatment. Making tables to itemize effects of medication or difficult days is not given as homework. Through forming a trusting relationship with the therapist, the client gradually shares more of what brings them to therapy. Through listening, the therapist helps the client develop an understanding of themselves.  The therapist has an idea of how the past decisions and relationships can effect current patterns of interaction.
